Chipmunk Studio
BrainShift Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 24, 2026 · Last updated: August 30, 2026
Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how Chipmunk Studio (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use BrainShift.
This policy applies only to BrainShift. Other Chipmunk Studio apps, including Engage, have separate privacy policies.
BrainShift keeps your Screen Time and Health information, detailed activity history, user-authored Plans, settings, and earned-time balances on your device. It sends the limited product analytics described below and uses service providers for purchases and attribution. We do not operate accounts or a cloud database for BrainShift.
Information that stays on your device
BrainShift may process and store the following information locally:
- Screen Time activity and app, category, or website selections
- Detailed focus-session history and earned screen-time balances
- Settings, preferences, schedules, and challenge progress
- A broad age band used for age-appropriate sleep guidance
- Apple Health information you allow BrainShift to read, such as workouts, mindful sessions, steps, walking distance, and sleep
On supported systems, BrainShift processes Screen Time reports directly on your device and may retain a short-lived local report snapshot for up to 15 minutes. On other systems, reports are rendered through Apple’s Device Activity report extension. Screen Time data is never uploaded, used for advertising profiles, or included in analytics or support diagnostics.
Your Screen Time and Health information is processed on your device. Chipmunk Studio does not receive, store, or have access to this information.
If you enter your age during onboarding, BrainShift converts it into a broad age band. Your exact age and date of birth are not retained.
BrainShift only requests read access to Apple Health. It does not write information to Apple Health or use Health information for advertising.
You can manage Screen Time, Health, and notification permissions through your device settings.
Product analytics
We use Mixpanel to understand how BrainShift is used, measure activation and retention, evaluate feature and purchase flows, and improve the app.
Mixpanel may process:
- A randomly generated identifier linked only to this BrainShift installation, not to your name, a BrainShift account, or an advertising identifier
- Allowlisted product events, such as app launches, onboarding progress, permission results, paywall interactions, purchase and restore outcomes, subscription-status changes, focus and break sessions, Plan usage, and support or App Store review entry points
- Limited event details, such as a predefined onboarding step, source, status, product tier, activity origin, outcome, Plan kind, difficulty, target or actual session duration, or reward amount
- Limited technical context, such as app version, operating-system version, device model, Mixpanel SDK version, analytics environment, and analytics schema version
BrainShift does not send Mixpanel your name, email address, account identifier, advertising identifier, Screen Time totals, selected apps or websites, Screen Time tokens, Health information, sleep details, raw Brain Health score, Productive Apps history, user-authored Plan content, support-message content, prices, transaction or product identifiers, purchase error text, or location derived from your IP address.
Automatic event collection, People profiles, account identification, session replay, IP-based geolocation, advertising identifiers, and cross-app tracking are disabled. BrainShift sends analytics to Mixpanel’s EU-hosted service. Read Mixpanel’s Privacy Policy for more information.
You can turn product analytics off or on under Settings > Data Controls > Share Product Analytics. Turning it off stops BrainShift from sending future analytics events and clears the Mixpanel SDK’s local tracking state. Turning it back on resumes future allowlisted analytics and sends Mixpanel’s reserved opt-in consent event.
Purchases and subscriptions
BrainShift offers purchases through Apple’s App Store. Apple processes your payment and billing information. Chipmunk Studio does not receive your payment-card or banking details.
We use RevenueCat to manage purchases and premium access. RevenueCat may process:
- An automatically generated anonymous identifier
- Purchase and subscription history
- Product and entitlement information
- App, device, and operating-system information needed to provide the service
We do not provide RevenueCat with your name, email address, Screen Time activity, Health information, focus history, or selected app lists.
RevenueCat helps us validate purchases, restore access, prevent fraud, and understand purchase performance. Read RevenueCat’s Privacy Policy for more information.
Apple Ads attribution
BrainShift may use Apple’s standard advertising attribution service with RevenueCat to determine whether an installation or purchase resulted from one of our Apple Ads campaigns.
We use this information only to measure the performance of Chipmunk Studio’s own App Store advertising. We do not use it to track you across third-party apps or websites, display third-party advertising, or build an advertising profile.
Support communications
If you contact us, we may receive your email address, the contents of your message, and any attachments or technical information you choose to provide. Before you send a support email, BrainShift may include editable device and app diagnostics; you can review and remove this information before sending.
We use this information only to respond to your request, investigate problems, and provide support. Support communications are normally deleted within 24 months after the request is resolved, unless we need to retain them longer for security, legal compliance, or dispute resolution.
Please do not send passwords, payment-card information, Health records, or Screen Time reports when contacting us.
How we share information
We may share limited information:
- With Mixpanel to provide product analytics
- With RevenueCat to manage purchases and Apple Ads attribution
- With Apple for App Store purchases and platform services
- When required by law or necessary to protect our users and legal rights
Service providers that process information for BrainShift, including Mixpanel and RevenueCat, are required to provide the same or equivalent protection described in this policy, use the information only to provide their services to us, and comply with applicable privacy law.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it for targeted advertising or track you across third-party apps and websites.
Apple separately handles information associated with the App Store, Apple Health, Screen Time, device permissions, and optional diagnostic sharing according to your Apple settings and Apple’s Privacy Policy.
Retention and deletion
BrainShift’s local information remains on your device until you remove it through the app or system settings, or uninstall BrainShift.
Uninstalling BrainShift removes information stored in the app’s local storage according to iOS behavior. It does not delete information independently maintained by Apple, such as Apple Health records or App Store purchase history.
Mixpanel product analytics are retained for up to 12 months. Turning product analytics off or uninstalling BrainShift stops future transmission to Mixpanel but does not automatically delete analytics already sent.
Purchase information processed by Apple and RevenueCat is retained as necessary to validate and restore purchases, prevent fraud, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes.
You may contact us to request deletion of eligible information held by Chipmunk Studio, Mixpanel, or RevenueCat on our behalf.
Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal information.
Because BrainShift’s Screen Time and Health information, detailed local activity history, and user-authored Plans remain on your device, Chipmunk Studio cannot access or provide a copy of them. You can manage this information through BrainShift, your device settings, or by uninstalling the app.
You can stop future product analytics at any time under Settings > Data Controls > Share Product Analytics.
Mixpanel analytics are associated with a random installation identifier rather than your name or a BrainShift account. As a result, we may not be able to locate analytics records from your email address alone.
To submit a privacy request, email support@chipmunkstudio.com with the subject “BrainShift Privacy Request.”
Children’s privacy
If an age is entered during onboarding, BrainShift processes it on the device to select an appropriate age band. The exact age is discarded and is not transmitted to Chipmunk Studio.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that a child under 13 has provided personal information to us, please contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when BrainShift’s features, service providers, or legal obligations change.
We will publish the updated policy on this page and revise the “Last updated” date. If a change materially affects how information is handled, we will provide additional notice where appropriate.
